“One Green Leaf”……. FREE Crochet Leaf Pattern #2 Today!

Patterns - Embellishments

Here is the second leaf pattern.  You will notice that it is very similar to the “Little Leaf” pattern.  This one, though, has a little more width at the base of it.  It’s a bigger leaf all around.  It makes a nice look when grouped with a “Little Leaf”!

Skill Level:  Easy

Size:   Completed leaf is approximately 2 inches long (not counting the stem) and about 1 ½  inches wide (this will be determined by your  tension, gauge, size of yarn and size of hook.)

Use Size G Crochet Hook  (I used this size hook to get this leaf, but you can actually use any size hook to get the size that you want…..try all kinds of sizes!  It’s fun to see what you can come up with!)

Materials Needed:

–  Small amounts of  Aran weight yarns (#4) in color of your choice   (For a leaf, I would use various colors of green, but I have also been known to make much more colorful leaves, too!)
–  Crochet Hook, Size G/4.25 mm
–  Yarn Needle  (Used for working in loose yarn ends)

Gauge:  Gauge doesn’t really matter for this pattern.  Just try different hooks to get a bigger or smaller leaf.

If you would like to watch or follow along with my video for “One Green Leaf”, here it is!!

Leaf Pattern

Chain 8 .  In the fourth ch from the hook, work 8 dc.  Work 1 dc in the next  ch.  In the next ch, work 1 hdc.  In the next ch, work 1 sc.  In the last ch, 1 sl st, 1 ch, 1 sl st.  Now work up the other side of the leaf.  1 sc in first ch.  1 hdc in next ch.  1 dc in next ch.  Work 8 dc in the last ch.  Sl st in the first stitch of the leaf.
To add the stem, ch 5.  Turn and 1 sc in each chain.  Sl st in the first stitch of the leaf.

Fasten off and keep 15 inch length of yarn to sew leaf onto hat or purse.

Weave in the loose end at the beginning of the leaf.

Thank you for this lovely leaf pattern; it will go with some flowers for the preemie hats I make.

Hi Marianna, I’m new to all this and I couldn’t find where to post my own comments so I’m borrowing yours. I’m also having trouble making this come out, especially on the return side. The video isn’t much help as her left hand is in the way and I can’t see the stitches she is making. Any help would be appreciated as this is a very nice leaf.

In order to assist you, and others, I have redone my video tutorial and I hope it will be easier for you to follow! It is on the “One Green Leaf” post on my blog and it is on the “Video Tutorial” page on my blog! Please let me know if you have any further questions!
        Best Wishes,
        Chris

Hi – are these UK or American stitches?

  • Carrie has written: 09/17/2015 at 9:49 pm Reply

I can get to where it says to work the other side of the leaf and then it doesn't work out right, any hints?

  • Christine Longe has written: 04/13/2016 at 4:59 pm Reply

Thanks for asking. My patterns are written using American stitches.

Chris, thank you for taking the time to share this pattern. I struggled the first time, as well, but instead of being unpleasant- I will be appreciative and watch the video, as you suggested. I hope others who may not have come across so nice wont stop you from sharing in the future.

  • Tracey Reichert has written: 07/04/2017 at 11:53 am Reply

Sorry, Chris – Tracey again. I watched your video which was perfect. I believe the issue we are having is your written pattern says 8 dc in 4th chain but the video says 4 dc in 4th chain. It makes perfect sense if you watch the video. Again, thanks for sharing.

  • Christine Longe has written: 07/04/2017 at 8:01 pm Reply

I've added the video tutorial to this pattern page. Hope that helps!!

  • Christine Longe has written: 07/04/2017 at 8:03 pm Reply

I have added the correct video to this page. I think you may have been watching the video for "Little Leaf". That one only uses 4 dc at the beginning and the end of the leaf. Thanks for visiting my pages!

Great little pattern! Thank you! I used #10 thread and a 0 hook. Took it one step further and did a double leaf!
