To add the stem, ch 5.  Turn and 1 sc in each chain.  Sl st in the first stitch of the leaf.  Fasten off and keep 15 inch length of yarn to sew leaf onto hat.

Attaching Leaves to Hat

Using the photograph for leaf placement, sew both leaves to the hat.  Sew the leaves on before sewing on the sunflower.  To attach, sew right along center line (vein) of each leaf.   Fasten off securely and weave in loose ends of yarn.

Sunflower:  (for both sizes)

Click here for my video tutorial on how to make the sunflower!!

Round 1:  Attach yarn to the dc just to the right of the last slip stitch of the brown yarn.   *Ch 3, skip 1 dc st, sl st into the next stitch*.  Repeat 11 more times.  (This makes the base for 12 petals.)
Round 2:  Sl st in the first Ch 3 space.
In the same space, Ch 2,  work 2 dc, Ch 2, Sl st.  *Then Sl st in the next Ch 3 space.  In the same Ch 3 space, Ch 2, work 2 dc, Ch 2, Sl st*  Repeat from * to * all the way around.  End with a Sl st at the base of the first petal.  This should neatly connect the last petal with the first petal.

Fasten off yarn, leaving a tail of yarn about 20 inches long.  This will be used to sew the flower to the hat.

Refer to the photo for placement of the sunflower on the hat.  (Or choose your own placement!)  Sew flower to hat.  Weave in loose ends.

Enjoy!!!  It will be so cute on your little one!!!

Great looking hat. I could see doing it in more open V stitches for a summer baby.
