“Red Apple” Crochet Baby Hat FREE PATTERN!!!

Patterns - Hats - Baby

I love those little lemon, pumpkin and apple hats for babies, so I designed an easy and quick pattern to create these types of hats!  Just use this pattern and choose the color of yarn you want to make for either the lemon, pumpkin, orange or apple.  I used red yarn for this lovely “Red Apple” Crochet Baby Hat!!!

Skill Level:
     Easy

Size:
0 – 3 months

Materials Needed:
–  1 skein Aran weight (#4) yarn  (Ranch Red)  (I used “WoolEase” for this hat.)
–  Small amount of #4 weight yarn  (Dusty Green) for leaves
(I used “Vanna’s Choice”)
–  Crochet Hook,  Size G/4.00 mm
–  Yarn Needle  (Used for working in loose yarn ends and to sew on leaves.)

Gauge:  12 dc sts = 4 inches
            (I crochet pretty loosely.  If you crochet tighter, you may want to adjust your hook to get your desired size.)

Stitches/Techniques Used in this Pattern:

Magic Circle
sl st = slip Stitch
dc = double crochet
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet

Hat Pattern
Size:  0 – 3 months

Round 1:  Using the “Magic Circle”, Ch 1.  Work 12 dc in the circle.  Join with slip stitch to top of first dc.   (12 dc)

*  The Ch 2 at the beginning of most rows does not count as a dc.

Round 2:  Ch 2.  Work 2 dc in each stitch around.  Join to first dc with slip stitch.  (24 dc)

Round 3:  Ch 2.  *Work 1 dc in first stitch.  Work 2 dc in next stitch.*  Repeat from * to * around.  Join to first dc with slip stitch.  (36 dc)

Round 4:  Ch 2.  *Work 1 dc in next 8 stitches.  Work 2 dc in next stitch.*  Repeat from * to * around.  Join to first dc with slip stitch.   (40 dc)

Round 5 – 8:  Ch 2.  *Skip 1 stitch.  Work 2dc in next stitch. *   Repeat from * to * around.  Join to first dc with slip stitch. (40 dc)

Round 9 – 11:  Ch 1.  Work 1 sc in each stitch around.  Join to first sc with slip stitch.  (40 sc)

Fasten off yarn and weave in ends.

 Leaf instructions follow below.

Size:  3 – 6 months

Use Hook Size G/4.00 mm

Round 1:  Using the “Magic Circle”, Ch 1.  Work 12 dc in the circle.  Join with slip stitch to top of first dc.  (12 dc)

Round 2:  Ch 2.  Work 2 dc in each stitch around.  Join to first dc with slip stitch.  (24 dc)

Round 3:  Ch 2.  *Work 1 dc in next stitch.  Work 2 dc in next stitch.*. Repeat from * to * around.  Join to first dc with slip stitch.  (36 dc)

Round 4:  Ch 2.  *Work 1 dc in next 4 stitches.  Work 2 dc in next stitch.*. Repeat from * to * around to last stitch.  Skip last stitch.   Join to first dc with slip stitch.

Round 5-9:  Ch 2.  *Skip 1 stitch.  Work 2dc in next stitch. *  Repeat from * to * around.  Join to first dc with slip stitch.

Round 10 – 12:  Ch 1.  Work 1 sc in each stitch around.  Join to first sc with slip stitch.

Fasten off yarn and weave in loose ends.

Leaf Pattern
(Make 2)

Chain 11 .  In the fourth ch from the hook, work 4 dc.  Work 1 dc in each of the next 4 ch.  In the next ch, work 1 hdc.  In the next ch, work 1 sc.  In the last ch, 1 sl st, 1 ch, 1 sl st.  Now work up the other side of the leaf.  1 sc in first ch.  1 hdc in next ch.  1 dc in each of the next 4 ch.  4 dc in the last ch.  Do not cut yarn.
To add the stem, use same yarn and ch 5.  Turn and 1 sc in each chain.  Sl st in the first stitch of the leaf.  Fasten off and keep 15 inch length of yarn to sew leaf onto hat.

Attaching Leaves to Hat

Using the photograph for leaf placement, sew both leaves to the hat.  To attach, start at the bottom of the leaf (not the tip) sew right along center line (vein) of each leaf.  When you get to the tip, turn round and sew again right up the vein again over the first row of stitching.  Weave in end of yarn on one leaf.  Trim off end of yarn on one of the leaves.  Be sure to have the stems at the top center of the hat.  When both leaves are attached, use the remaining yarn from one of the leaves to sew the stems together.  Sew right through the center of the stem and then wrap the yarn around the base of the stem.  Fasten off securely and weave in loose ends of  yarn.

    Switch to a larger needle. I used and I needle
    My yarn was baby weight, so I used two strands together.

    This pattern is wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing! I made two for my sister in Japan that will have twins in about 6 months. She will love them and I'm sure her Japanese family will adore them.

    Thank you for all your Ideas! I am 75 and I make a TON of baby hats – most are for the Newborn Nursery at the Hospital in nearby Waco, Tx. There are an avg. of 425 babies born each month!) I do sell some, so I can buy more yarn to make more hats, so I DO stay busy! I also make them for the children's hospital in Temple, Tx.
    The more fun ideas the better, and the nurses have so much fun matching the hats to the different babies!
    God Bless you!
    Susan in Marlin, Tx.

    As a parent, I would like to pick the idea and instruction from here. Regarding baby toys and baby outfits, we should choose the best one of the best brand; but it is quite better to choose handmade products. Here this article also describes the whole instructions on how to prepare baby hats. Thanks for providing such wonderful tips and I hope, I can prepare a suitable baby hat while following the above instructions.

    Do you have an adjustment for a 12-18 month old? I would love to make this for my little

  • Andrew Stark has written: 09/08/2018 at 12:08 pm Reply

    Infants can never have excessively numerous hats. The truth of the matter is at some point or another, children will grow up, and this might be the main time to dress them up with no contention.Best baby sun hats
